When you order a rocking horse from Tradcraft we regard your order as providing you with a personal service. While making your rocking horse we take a great deal of pride in our work and we endeavour to meet your precise requirements.. Each horse we make is unique. Emphasis is placed on attention to detail during every stage of the craft, from the selection of wood to the fine detail of our hand carving and the beautiful finish of the end product. Our pledge is to provide you with a beautiful, prestigious functional toy. A rocking horse whose elegance will proudly grace your home.
Sizes -
There are several styles and sizes from which to choose. As a general rule of thumb sizes can usually be associated with the following age groups:
(small) 2 - 5 years, (medium) 6 - 10 years, (large) 10 - adult.
Although soon to be outgrown, the small rocking horse lives on to make a superb decorative artefact and valuable asset. The medium size will carry the weight of an average adult, while the large rocking horse will take riders of any age. Traditional rocking horses are often handed down through generations.
Choice of hardwoods -
We are also pleased to be able to offer a selection of hardwoods from which your rocking horse can be made. This is generally dependent upon the type of finish you wish your horse to have. The most popular (and most traditional) finish is the dapple grey horse. For
this we recommend tulipwood, a very straight grained hardwood of the Poplar species. However your choice may be a Black Beauty, a bay, a chestnut or Palomino etc., or maybe you simply prefer a polished natural wood finish in mahogany, oak, beech or ash. Whatever your choice we will be happy to discuss this with you.
Tack and accessories -
Of course we also offer a selection of tack, saddlecloth colours and bridles. All Tradcraft rocking horses are finished with only the highest quality materials and the very best accessories. No simulations (unless specifically requested), real horsehair mane and tail. Real leather saddlecloths and saddle. Best quality hand stitched authentic leather bridle. We fit glass eyes (not plastic). We also use top quality brass stirrups and accessories.
Time capsule and personal message -
Our rocking horses will withstand the test of time. They are an investment, an antique of the future. They may become a family heirloom or a collectors item. Being very aware of this, during the early stages of construction, Richard places a time capsule (as well as its' own wooden heart) into the sealed body cavity of your horse. The contents of the time capsule can be of your very own choice on placing your commissioned order. Photographs, trinkets and copies of family trees are just some of the things we have included.
We also mount an engraved brass plaque on the stand, this can also be engraved with the words of your choice to deliver a personal message, perhaps to commemorate a special birthday or occasion.
